Newell Brands Associate Chemist - CCS Division in Winchester, Virginia

Summary:

Conducts chemical and physical laboratory testing on finished products, prototype formulas and cosmetic raw materials for such purposes as product and process development, product stability, quantitative and qualitative performance analysis. The Associate Chemist will perform a variety of laboratory tests on materials and finished goods products to determine chemical and physical properties. With guidance, initiate development process on new products. Evaluate stability of formulations and packaging. This individual must be a self-starter and team player, and must be able to work well with little supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reformulate/Developrobust quality formulas meeting marketing's specifications as indicated by aNew Product Profile through bench experimentation.

  • Createand/or review and approves technicaldocuments to support developmental projects (i.e. ingredient statements, manufacturing formula card, cost formulas).

  • Developrobust manufacturing processes for development projects.

  • Evaluatesproduct properties through instrumental and other appropriate testing.

  • Conductsphysical stability testing.

  • Developsspecifications for new and/or reformulated product.

  • Sourceand approve new and/or alternate raw materials.

  • Exhibitteam player qualities of cooperation and coordination; professional interactionin all business contacts, all day, every day.

  • Presentfor work when scheduled is a mandatory function.

  • Compliancewith all company safety rules, procedures and guidelines is essential.

  • Setsup/calibrates laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for testing,evaluation or process control.

  • Documentsresults of testing and analysis in Laboratory Notebook under good laboratorypractices.

  • Interprets,summarizes and prepares report with data obtained from product testing.

  • Worksclosely with Engineering, and QC to conduct analysis and testing of rawmaterials, finished product and packaging components to ensure they meetspecifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorof Science Degree in Chemistry / orrelated field

  • Must have 1-3 years of provenexperience incompany product formulations.

  • Musthave experience with laboratory equipment, either through laboratoryexperience, or through academic achievements.

  • Ableto quickly adapt to job duties with minimal supervision required.

  • Abilityto interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical ordiagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet usagerequired. Alpha-numeric data entryskills required along with an ability to learn and utilize other database orlaboratory management software. (ex: Formulator)
