Newell Brands Manufacturing Engineer - Fishing in Spirit Lake, Iowa

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of process and industrial engineering responsibilities focused on improving the productivity of the manufacturing operations. Provides leadership for new product launches by supporting the manufacturing portion of the new product development process. Responsible for designing and laying out new manufacturing processes. Leads continuous improvement activities for existing processes to achieve improved efficiency, capacity utilization, product quality, and coworker safety.

  • Supports the new product development process byproviding preliminary cost estimates of new products, participating in pre-productiontrial runs to establish process parameters, routing and bill of materials.Recommends changes to process and product specifications based onmanufacturability observed in the trial runs.

  • Designs efficient manufacturing processes followinglean principles for new product launches.Studies existing capacity and capabilities to specify the appropriatenew equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment for new products.

  • Develops process flow, equipment/process layouts, andcapital requirements for new products.

  • Works with mechanical engineers to specify, procure,and set-up new or modified equipment and manufacturing processes.

  • Supports the process teams in developing andimplementing standardized work procedures.

  • Establishes final routings and costs for new productintroductions.

  • Leads and/or participates in process team kaizenactivities needed to meet or exceed the stated metrics for their functionalareas of responsibility.

  • Leads capital projects related to production floorimprovements in productivity, capacity, quality, or safety.

  • Reviews and updates labor and machine routings bycompleting time studies, monitoring work, and reviewing production data.

  • Ensures SAP routings and work centers areaccurate.

  • Utilize quality tools to assess process capability andvariability. Applies process controls tolimit variability.

  • Designs work stations and work cell layouts to improveergonomics and prevent injuries and illnesses.Investigates ergonomic injuries and illnesses for potential root causeand implements countermeasures to prevent future recurrence.

  • Designand/or specify inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment.

  • Conducts problem solving analyses on production orquality related problems to identify root cause. Identifies and implements countermeasures thatprevent future recurrence of problem.

  • A minimum of three (3) years prior related experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacuting, Industrial, orMechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline

  • Lean manufacturing experience in high volume productionenvironment

  • Previous experience with industrial packaging equipmentand processes a plus

  • Working knowledge of injection molding a plus

  • Proficient user of the following software: MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, andAutoCAD

  • SAP experience preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
