Position Title: Controller – CCS Division

Location: Huntersville, NC

Reports To: Senior Director, FP&A and Control

Summary:

Strong financial governance, control and compliance is a core requirement of any successful organization as this provides the basis from which all decisions flow. The divisional nature of the CCS organization, as part of Newell Brands, means we have to ensure strong Balance Sheet control across multiple global facilities and locations within an overall corporate shared services environment. This role will have the primary responsibility for ensuring the CCS Balance Sheet accuracy. This will include managing all period end consolidation work and ensuring prompt and compliant reconciliations. Additionally, this position will play an important role in the diligence process during the upcoming CCS divestiture process as well as being the primary liaison point with the Newell Corporate Accounting group.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for the accurate compilation and reporting of the CCS consolidated divisional Balance Sheet including developing all necessary governance, control and compliance processes and documentations. This will include commentary over prior periods.

  • Work with CCS International finance team to develop improved control approach across the multiple regional operations, including developing periodic international entity Balance Sheet review process.

  • Develop period end consolidation and accounting processes which both improve the accuracy of the reported data and also enhance the efficiency of the overall period end closing process, working synthetically with the other parts of the divisional and corporate finance organizations to help create a seamless flow

  • Manage all CCS account reconciliation activity, including developing processes around completion, review and approval

  • In conjunction with Corporate Accounting, produce and review accounting papers for the division

  • Specifically, and working with both the Commercial and Operational finance teams, develop processes which ensure the accurate calculation, booking and reconciliation of key accrual accounts including the different customer and programming accruals and those for the Excess and Obsolete Inventory

  • Develop control and governance procedures across the CCS division which aspire to best practice but, at a minimum, are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and Newell Corporate internal requirements

  • Serve as primary liaison with Newell Corporate Internal Audit function, effectively managing audits across the division and leading any necessary remediation efforts

  • Working in conjunction with both Corporate M&A and the finance lead for Transaction Support, ensure all financial information required for the upcoming CCS divestiture process is accurate, consistent, and can be reconciled to reported and statutory data

  • Act as the primary contact point with Corporate Accounting, understanding and enacting all changes to both US GAAP, IFRS (where necessary) and Corporate Accounting policies, and work with the divisional Data Integrity and FP&A leads to ensure consistency between Newell18 and NBPlan systems. This will include providing guidance to the CCS International finance team around the implementation of changes to accounting policies.

  • Other ad-hoc duties as agreed with the Senior Director, FP&A and Control

Key Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of accounting leadership and compliance experience within a multi-location enterprise. Although the successful candidate may have started in public practice they will need to have at least 5 years post-practice experience

  • Experience preparing US GAAP statutory financial statements

  • Manufacturing experience would be highly desirable

  • Experience working within a shared services environment and working with multiple corporate partners

  • Understanding of international operations is an advantage

  • Significant experience of SAP and Hyperion is strongly preferred

  • Ability to work both cross-functionally and across different international cultures

  • Mergers & Acquisitions experience, including managing the financial elements of a Data Room would be an advantage

  • Willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally

  • The successful person will have a demonstrated track record of unimpeachable integrity
