Job Summary:Under the guidance of the Director, Operations, Planning and Supply Chain, the Maintenance Manager oversees all aspects of Maintenance to ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality at the lowest reasonable cost by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Defines responsibilities and establishes effective standards of performance of all department personnel (supervisors, indirect and direct headcount).Appraises team member performance and provides regular performance feedback.Ensures any subordinate do the same.
Manages and accepts responsibility on a daily basis for all assigned personnel
Conducts regular department meetings to ensure effective communication of company and department vision, goals, priorities and objectives
Fosters healthy team environment including employee accountability and outstanding team performance.Develops team leaders on each shift.
Works closely with Operations to coordinate on-time delivery of 1st quality product.Puts team goals first and works to tear down boundaries.
Recommends hiring, promotions, terminations, wage and salary adjustments.Establishes and directs training and development program for Maintenance Department.
Develops Maintenance Department objectives, policies, plans and programs.
Establishes key operating metrics for department.Reviews operating performance, defines and manages toward goals.
Prepares and administers departmental budget; ensures adherence to budgeted goals and is prepared to explain variances to budget, recommend and implement suitable cost reduction projects
Develops and implements processing methods designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality
Initiates continuous improvement projects and confers with others to improve plant performance against corporate goals.
Keeps abreast of new developments and technologies in paper processing, printing, packaging, and facilities management.
Assists in the development of specifications and process capability of new equipment purchases.
Participates in the Capital budgeting process and projects, helping to ensure projects are on time, to budget and achieve project objectives.
Ensure proper maintenance on existing equipment by leading the development and implementation of appropriate preventative and predictive maintenance plans.
Determine staffing requirements and re-deploy resources as needed to address any shifting manning needs or changes in priorities and scheduling
Participates in plant safety and loss prevention efforts. Ensures team member compliance to all safety and environmental regulations.
Institute and maintain good housekeeping standards in accordance with a sustained 5S program
5-7 years of maintenance supervisory experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
Strong technical background – preferably in Engineering.
Strong background in use of Quality tools -- Six Sigma, process control, FMEA
Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing philosophies, e.g. Quick Changeover (SMED), TPM, Visual workplace (5S), pull manufacturing, continuous improvement mentality
Experience implementing Preventative and Predictive Maintenance programs along with practical use of CMMS type systems.
Team-oriented management style with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
Good planning and problem solving skills with proven track record in achieving results through teamwork.
Word, Excel spreadsheet proficiency
Ability to communicate and work well with people from all levels of the organization; instruct and direct in a firm, fair and consistent manner
Ability to interpret instructions and guidance from executive management; make thoughtful decisions and gain further data and guidance as necessary
Proven track record in implementing significant change.
