Position Description

JOB TITLE: Assistant Store Manager DEPARTMENT: Retail

LOCATION: Retail – Assigned Location REPORTING STRUCTURE: Store Manager

BAND/GRADE: Various Grades FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Provides assistance in the direction and leadership of an assigned Yankee Candle Retail Store; opens and closes the store on a regular basis; acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) for various shifts; drives sales & profitability; provides exemplary guest service, ensures visual merchandising/presentation and operational standards; assists with the recruitment, staffing, training and coaching of store management teams and sales associates; meets or exceeds divisional and store sales and profitability goals.


Duty/Responsibility: Drives store sales and profitability plan to meet or exceed sales revenue to budget through exceptional guest service. Maintains current knowledge of product, merchandise, store policy and company information in order to provide high quality and informed guest service.

Duty/Responsibility: Ensure that total presentation and display of merchandise is impactful, customer focused and maximizes sales. Ensure that standards are being followed including plan-o-grams, cleanliness, marketing/signage and sales promotions. Restocks shelves with product/accessories as needed.

Duty/Responsibility: Effectively train team members in proper operational standards and a guest focused culture. Support the Store Manager in coaching team members to achieve operational excellence and exemplary guest service.

Duty/Responsibility: Maintain a safe and healthy workplace and shopping environment for our employees and guests. Carry out store safety, security and related procedures, as established.

Duty/Responsibility: Act as Manager on Duty for various shifts, providing direction to team members on daily task focuses and providing exceptional guest service. Opens and closes the store on a regular basis.

Duty/Responsibility: Assists the Store Manager in ensuring adequate staffing through consistent recruiting and networking efforts.

Duty/Responsibility: Assists with effectively manages the store inventory (control and processing).

Position Description

Duty/Responsibility: May prepares cash reports and merchandise orders. Duty/Responsibility: Uses a computer to process information and transactions. Operates POS system with speed and accuracy. Wrap guest purchases with care for transit.


FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for contributing to management of store budget of controllable and non-controllable expense (under direction of the Store Manager)

WORK RELATIONSHIPS (INTERNAL): Other members of the store team (Store Manager, Second Assistant Manager, Sales Associate) and leaders in the Retail chain

WORK RELATIONSHIPS (EXTERNAL): Yankee Candle Company Guests and/or vendorsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCTATION: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience. RELATED EXPERIENCE: 2+ years’ demonstrated supervisory/management experience in a specialty retail sales environment or similar fast paced, customer service environment preferred.


SKILLS REQUIRED: Demonstrated ability to effectively lead/direct, coach and train others in a retail setting, and the ability to relate well using communication, interpersonal, diplomacy and related skills. Strong customer service skills and the ability to sell products.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typical Retail Store environment. Please reference Work Environmental Checklist for this job. Flexibility in work schedule is required including the ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as operational need may require.
