Newell Brands Electronical Technician III in Columbus, Ohio

This is primarily a high-level maintenance, and electrical journeyman position focused on maintenance, equipment improvements and new installation or power distribution. This position may be tasked to work independently if so directed. They will be responsible for repairing the electronic equipment used in the fulfillment facilities, such as PLC-based controllers, electrical controllers, relays, general low voltage controls, motors, and more. This position will also task the individual with general power distribution to equipment, lighting, and other electrical installations. This will also require the individual to work with high voltages and potentially live panels using the proper precautions and safety equipment. . The position will at times also require working on mechanical systems as general repairs or diagnostics dictates.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty/Responsibility: Communicates and works directly with engineering on complex repairs/ diagnostics and equipment modifications. Can read and understand basic PLC ladder logic, can diagnose and make small modifications to programs as well as electrical schematics. Can be assigned to complete projects independently if required.

Duty/Responsibility: Maintains all plant and production equipment by using analytical troubleshooting specifically of electrical and electronic components and circuitry. This included high voltage distribution panels, switch gear, fusing and breakers. Leads initiatives for setting up general electrical TPM maintenance.

Duty/Responsibility: Installs components, units and electronic devices following specifications. Can suggest replacements and work directly with engineering to approve.

Duty/Responsibility: Uses a basic understanding of robotics to diagnose complex problems including use of Teach pendants to obtain diagnostic information.

Duty/Responsibility: Uses electronic, hand, power, and pneumatic tools as well as electronic testing equipment.

Duty/Responsibility: Makes modifications to equipment and adjustments/repairs according to written or directed specifications. Can suggest or make modifications independently if so approved.

Duty/Responsibility: Fabricates parts, cables, and test fixtures as well as electrical control panels under direction or from supplied schematics. Can develop control cabinets designs from general function diagrams or descriptions and create as- built schematics using CAD.

Duty/Responsibility: Installs electrical power feeds to equipment, lighting and other such systems using medium to high voltage following local and state codes. Acts as a team leader on these projects when required. Is responsible for planning the projects including ordering of materials, developing work schedule with manufacturing and engineering and assigning tasks.

Duty/Responsibility: Works with mechanical technicians and assists in the repairs or diagnostics of machinery and systems. This may include mechanical repairs as well as electronics. Can work when required on live panels to perform diagnostics or repairs when shutting down power may result in an unsafe condition. Must use required safety protocols and proper PPE when working with live power. Ensures all electrical staff is current on proper PPE requirements.

Duty/Responsibility: This position is also required to perform general maintenance as well, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, building maintenance, mobile equipment repair and any other task assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCTATION: Degree from a Technical HS electrical technology or equivalent certification or Equivalent Experience

RELATED EXPERIENCE : 5 – 7 years

SKILLSREQUIRED: Requires basic understanding of electricity and electrical circuits including digital and analog control circuits. This position requires knowledge and use of a multi-meter, and various other analytical devices for troubleshooting these types of circuits and systems. Should be able to read and follow electrical schematics as well as develop or update. They need to have at a minimum a basic knowledge of using a computer to communicate with a PLC and diagnose PLC logic in the form of ladder logic at a minimum. Having had a basic maintenance course in either Allen Bradley PLC or Siemens PLC technology is a plus. They should have experience and knowledge of industrial electrical requirements. Possess solid computer skills and be able to use Microsoft Windows, Excel, & Word. Must be a highly motivated self-starter capable of working independently as well as in group settings. Well organized and able to multi-task. Good verbal and written communications skills. Strong leadership skills a plus.
