Title: Engineering Manager, Embedded Software Development – Connected Home & Security

We are looking for a highly motivated, hands on Engineering Manager of Embedded Software development team. You will be incharge of a highly visible team and will see all functional aspects of product development as we build next generation of IOT products. This role has direct reports, spread in multiple geographic locations. In this role you will expected to be a servant leader and are expected to lead by example. The multi-disciplinary nature of this position requires the candidate to have excellent communication skills, get involved in the technical details and decision making, demonstrate strong problem solving skills, and show passion to make a difference.


  • Directly supervise a team of electronic Embedded Software engineers by providing for their continued development, motivation, and performing performance management. Develop the team and assist them with goal setting and achievement. Work with individuals to help them reach their full potential.

  • Own software design and make key technical decisions. Be relentless in our pursuit of creating quality designs and high quality software delivered and tested right the first time. Lead by example. Actively participate in code reviews, handling difficult areas of software development.

  • Ensure product development activities are aligned to business needs.

  • Proactively assist team members in solving most complex technical challenges

  • Forefront process improvements, staffing needs, organizational gaps, ideas to increase productivity, eliminate waste, etc. to senior leadership

  • Interface with external technology partners

  • Review architecture and design proposals being generated internally and by external teams to ensure alignment with implementation recommendations

  • Travel required: up to 10% domestic.


  • The individual must demonstrate advanced coding skills in C, effective debugging techniques, and analytical skills both at system level and component level.

  • The individual must have proven ability to achieve results in a fast moving, dynamic environment.

  • The individual must be self-motivated and self-directed; however, must have also demonstrated ability to work well with people and have a proven desire to work as a team member, both on the same team and outside of the team.

  • In addition, the individual must have the abilities to work effectively cross-functionally, coordinate priorities and initiatives, troubleshoot and analyze complex problems, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Hands on experience in pre and post silicon bring up activities and debugging using emulation/FPGA/ASIC HW platform is a plus

  • Closely interact with hardware engineering and other software development teams, and Quality teams, Marketing teams to support NPD


  • 10+ years embedded software development experience with commercial SoC products for high volume, high quality consumer electronics products. 5+ years’ experience in software design. 2+ years of experience demonstrating technical leadership capabilities, working effectively with different levels of staff across functional boundaries

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the design, coding, testing, verification, validation and support of embedded microprocessor code to perform distributed control applications/functions. Additional experience in such applications over wireless networks or algorithms based on sensors is a plus. Experience in AWS IOT, BLE, Wi-Fi, low power or battery operated devices, and bare-metal programming highly valued

  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles and strong software architecture.

  • Experience integrating hardware, operating systems and software applications

  • Ability to ramp up quickly on both new technologies and existing technologies.

  • Ability to design the low level details with a constant view of the big picture

  • Mastery of Linux configuration, device driver integration, C, C++, scripting languages, IP, Wireless communication protocols, and SoC bring-up

  • Highly focused, with the ability to deliver solid work on tight schedules.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Excellent analytical, programming and debugging skills


  • BS electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent (MS highly preferred).
