Newell Brands Product Development Chemist in Atlanta, Georgia
The Product Development Chemist will be responsible for new product development (NPD) projects for both new and existing products, while working within a cross-functional team. Some travel may be required.
This position will:
Participate in the Ink andWriting System development efforts for NPD projects from conceptionthrough production launch, while following Newell’s Product DevelopmentProcess
Ensure the product meets orexceeds expectations from a cost, timing, and specificationstandpoint
Require the ability to workeffectively with other disciplines including Engineering, Marketing,Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain
Tasks & Responsibilities
Identifies cost and risks atthe component and sub-assembly level to meet defined cost targets.
Develops the analysis of howsub-assembly level decisions impact the overall business strategy tofacilitate design-for-cost.
Provides routine ink andwriting systems development, working autonomously on project teams withlittle to no guidance from more Senior Chemists to deliver robust productsolutions.
Reviews relevant competitiveproducts to provide benchmarking and analysis of technical specifications.
Implements existingtechnologies on a project level to deliver products.
Uses a disciplined approachand the appropriate methodology to analyze and determine the preferredsolution to technical challenges.
Analyzes test results toprovide data for use in solving problems.
Develops optimal producttest plans to validate design.
Summarizes complex technicalconcepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience to gainalignment.
Recommends and presentssolutions and opportunities in forums to encourage ideation and technicalsharing.
Generates questions tovalidate the understanding of the subject matter to facilitate team memberunderstanding.
Participates incross-functional teams to work seamlessly across disciplines as requiredto execute product initiatives.
Incorporates consumer andmarket insights to drive innovation and project execution.
Applies a basicunderstanding of product specifications, material/chemical selection,manufacturing processes, cost constraints, regulatory and legal landscape(intellectual property) to drive high quality, sustainable, and efficientNPD.
Recommends basic chemicalformulations of products and is accountable for a subset of the system toensure robust end product designs.
Recommends basic materialselection/design of writing systems for products and is accountable ofrobust designs in collaboration with the Engineering team.
Bachelor's degree inChemistry or Chemical Engineering required
2 year Product Developmentexperience required (5 years preferred)
Preferred – Experience withconsumer goods products
