Newell Brands Inventory Optimization Lead in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Title: Inventory Optimization Lead - Writing

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Location: Atlanta, GA

Job Summary:

The evolution of the Newell Supply Chain includes a focus on driving world class productivity results through building capability in people, processes, and technology. The Writing Division of Newell Brands manages over $200 million of inventory globally. The Inventory Optimization Lead will be responsible for driving optimization of this investment by maximizing the recovery from excess and obsolete inventory, identifying opportunities to increase velocity on slow moving inventory with our marketing teams, researching ways to substitute items with supply chain and seeking donation opportunities to benefit select community organizations

Job Duties:

  1. Serve as the key liaison with sales operations team including partnering in the following areas:

• Initiate hot buy lists and develop pricing parameters with marketing and finance

• Maintain “can’t discount” lists based upon planograms, listings and catalogs at key accounts

• Manage pricing tools and bid submission templates to driving consistent pricing

• Track in-coming opportunities and assure timely responses

• Confirm available quantities (how much remains available for sale at any given point in time)

• Lead weekly progress review calls with customer/channel sales teams to maintain focus on these sales opportunities

• Develop Sell sheets as may be necessary

• Prepare and lead monthly review cycle meetings with sales (focus list)

• Develop thematic offering lists (displays, holiday, dollar, art, etc.)

  1. Liaise with marketing leaders and take the lead in reviewing “stubborn” inventory items for usage opportunities as well as make recommendations on inventory items for seasonal, bonus and similar offerings

  2. Partner with supply chain leaders in order to develop recommendations on inventory options including:

• Build out of components and calculation of necessary recovery rates/pricing to move forward

• Identification of re-work opportunities

• Scraping of stranded items without opportunity for economic recovery and/or reviews for low dollar items with no demand

  1. Develop and execute plan to roll-out best practices and tracking tools internationally

  2. Publish of bi-monthly E&O list and other ad hoc information pulls from BI reporting tools

  3. Oversee development of monthly reporting package and lead meeting with executive leadership. Report out to include things such as;

• E&O waterfall

• Top ten Writing xElmer’s list

• Top ten Elmer’s list

• E&O by product category with top item

• Inventory composition report

• Corporate BI report

  1. Perform root cause analysis on the creation of difficult to sell inventory and propose improvements to avoid such situations from recurring

• Guide marketing team in suggesting SKUs for rationalization based upon velocity


• Bachelors Degree – BS/BA in business, finance, marketing, supply chain or logistics

• 4-7 years of supply chain management experience operating within a global supply chain strongly


• Ability to build trust and interact with all levels of the organization

• Proficiency in areas of general business administration: organizational design and communications,

economics, finance, etc.
